Australian Championships 2018

The week started for each level, with the Team competition, and qualification for Day 2 of competition in the All Around and Apparatus events. In Level 7, first time competitors, Amber Ward and Emma Ross had incredible competitions with Emma eventually finishing 3rd AA, 3rd Beam and as the Australian Champion on Floor, and Amber very close behind in 3rd place! Also in her first Australian Championships, Harriet Wingrove, Level 9, Under 13, had two solid days of competition, finishing in 3rd AA, 3rd on Floor and as the Australian Champion on Beam! These three young girls showed incredible composure throughout the competition, a credit to their diligence in the gym.

Four MLC gymnasts qualified to represent Victoria, at Level 10, and every year the competition gets tougher. Huge congratulations to Lauren Pengelly, reigning Australian Champion from 2017, who showed her fighting spirit to take 2nd AA. Emma McDiarmid, in Junior International, is closing the gap on her competitors and showed huge amount of improvement in her skill, and execution, to finish 9th AA in a very strong field.

Congratulations to the coaches involved, Jackie Caldwell, and Tim Lees, as well as Victorian Team Manager, Anna Francis.

Whilst the week is an intense and exhausting week away from school, the gymnasts enjoy the experience incredibly, and come back into the gym very inspired!
