Our Competitive Gym program follows incremental levels programs which allows gymnasts to develop at a rate relative to their ability and needs.
All gymnasts are assessed and selected to enter the competitive program based on physical ability and the desire to train in this program.
The Competitive Program
Gymnasts in this program train from two to six days per week, with some gymnasts training up to 24 hours per week. The Competitive Program at MLC comprises of approximately 140 gymnasts.
The competitive squads are generally made up of approximately six to ten gymnasts per group. The coaching staff provide the optimal learning environment for the gymnasts.
Development Program (Pre-competitive)
The gymnasts in the Competitive Program progress through a systematic developmental pathway that focuses on the advancement of foundation skills, strength and flexibility. The Development Programs provide a solid base from which gymnasts can build for the future.
National Levels Program (NLP)
The National Levels Program is designed for all competitive gymnasts. They are flexible and encourage safe developmental progressions to enable gymnasts to develop to a National standard, up to Level 10.
MLC Gymnastics is one of the leading competitive clubs in Australia and has produced a large percentage of Victorian Team Members, who have also become Australian Representatives at Levels 9 and 10.
International Levels Program (ILP)
This program is designed for very talented gymnasts who are able to accelerate through an alternative training program. The long term aim is to prepare them for International competition by the age of 12 - 14 years. The Australian Junior and Senior National Teams are selected from the International Levels Program gymnasts. Only a very small percentage of gymnasts are selected to train and compete in the ILP and they must have a strong desire to do so.
